BIO-PASS ART 2014 – 2015 – 6th Edition of The Biennial of Young Artists, Bucharest

META Cultural Foundation, with financial support from the Romanian Cultural Institute, organises in Bucharest, on 20th of October 2014, the International Theoretical Symposium Bio-pass Art. The Symposium is going to take place at Institute, The Café (Știrbei Vodă 104 – 106), between 9:00 – 19:00.

The theoretical symposium Bio-pass Art is the first event from a series of four events which are going to be organised during the 6th edition of Biennial of Young Artists – Bio-pass Art, which is going to take place between October 2014 – October 2015 in Bucharest. The theoretical symposium aims to bring together researchers from various fields that proved to acknowledge the importance of biometrics in today’s society. This pluridisciplinary event will have side themes related to biometrics – biotechnology, bioethics, “bio-arts”, biometrics, info-medicine issues, identity interface, “post-human” condition, “trans-humanism”, technological spiritualism, transgenic body, “cyber-feminism” etc. The main objective is to encourage an international dialogue on different aspects of biometrics, thus familiarizing the audience with the main theme of the Bio-pass Art exhibition.

With every edition so far, The Biennial of Young Artists tackles new concepts, new approaches on the contemporary art phenomena. This year’s edition will take place under the same slogan used for every edition so far – `Art is always somewhere else`, taking it to a whole new level, advancing a new perspective: the relation between the artist – his/her artwork and the biometric identification of the visitor. Biometry represents a subject of major interest in both Romanian and European contemporary context. The biometric identification is not only an identity that cannot be changed, erased, forgotten, but an individual/particular permanence, a series of unique patterns, a form of managing the access to identity. The way contemporary arts relate to biometry represents the main theme that structures this edition of the Biennial.

For an artist, his art is the most personal belonging. It represents his ideals, concepts, thoughts, something far beyond his identity. This intimacy is often exposed to the unknown public – in a space, a gallery or a museum. By looking at the artist’s work, the viewer can interact with the artist’s personal thoughts.

But who is this viewer for the artist and why does the artist share such a personal belonging without receiving in return a similar personal asset? These are the questions that arise in the Bio-pass Art Biennial. ” Radu Pervolovici, Biennial of Young Artists Director
The 6th edition of Biennial of Young Artists – Bio-pass Art aims to generate and create a dialogue between art and biometric identification. Bio-pass Art will contain other three main events scheduled throughout May – October 2015 – Exhibition Bio-pass Art, Portfolio Review Workshop, Art Critique Workshop.
